Punjab celebrates 68th Republic Day with great fervor
Chandigarh, Jan26 (ANI): The 68th Republic Day was celebrated with great fervor in Punjab. The tricolor was hosted by the chief minister of Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal in Chandigarh.The chief minister remembered B.R Ambedkar who drafted the constitution of India on 26 January 1950.On the auspicious occasion of 68th Republic Day of India, Badal congratulated all the Indians especially the Punjabis who have contributed in the freedom struggle to set India free from the colonial rule. Contingents of police, BSF, home guards NCC and others took part in the parade and the School students presented colorful programmers like the traditional dance of Punjab, ‘Gidda’ at the republic day celebrations. The celebrations held with great fervor and reverence at the Wagah border where the Soldiers of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) exchanged sweets with their Pakistani counterparts to mark the 68th Republic Day.BSF personnel and Pakistan Rangers shook hands as they exchanged sweets.It is a tradition for Indian Army to exchange sweets with Pakistan Army on days of national importance for the two countries and on the occasion of major festivals every year.
