1. SOUNDBITE (Italian) AS ROMA COACH, RUDY GARCIA, ON PLAYING BARCELONA, SAYING:

“I will ask all my players to give it all because we have time to recover before the next game. And also, in order to make most use of a game like this, they must leave the field with no regrets, above all knowing that they can do something and they must do what they can to get the best result. That’s how we can leave without regrets. We know they are stronger than us but football is so strange that there can be surprises. There have been bigger surprises than a victory for Roma tomorrow. There are few chances to obtain it but let’s play this chance at least.”

STORY: AS Roma coach Rudy Garcia is not optimistic about his side’s chances of beating Barcelona when they meet in the Camp Nou on Tuesday (24 November) in a Champions League Group E qualifying game but insists his players will leave without regrets.

Barcelona destroyed bitter Spanish rivals Real Madrid in the Spanish capital at the weekend and top the domestic league by four points, so Garcia is expecting little reward.

“We know they are stronger than us but football is so strange that there can be surprises. There have been bigger surprises than a victory for Roma tomorrow. There are few chances to obtain it but let’s play this chance at least,” Garcia told the media.

Roma will be without talisman striker Francesco Totti and could also miss influential but injured midfielder Daniele De Rossi.

Roma held Barcelona 1-1 in the Italian capital in September, the only points dropped by the Catalans, and the Italians are second in the group with five points, one more than third played Bayer Leverkusen.

A draw will be enough for Barcelona to ensure qualification for the final 16 stages of the tournament.

Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi is finally ready to start after having come on as a substitute against Real but the defending champions are highly unlikely to have centre back Javier Mascherano available.

Mascherano, an Argentina international who has been an integral part of Barca’s recent glittering run, was forced off in the first half of Saturday’s 4-0 La Liga win at Real Madrid after taking a blow to the thigh.

Argentina captain Messi returned to action for the first time since injuring his knee at the end of September as a second-half substitute at the Bernabeu.
