STORY: Real Madrid talisman Cristiano Ronaldo is ready to play the whole match against his former team Sporting Lisbon, coach Zinedine Zidane said on Tuesday (September 13).
Ronaldo faces an emotional reunion with boyhood club Sporting Lisbon but Zidane said the Portuguese is very professional and will give his best when his side begin the defence of their Champions League crown on Wednesday (September 14).
“For sure it is a special moment for him. It is his club, he was educated there, it is normal. Tomorrow´s match is going to be special for him. But I know Cristiano is very professional, he gives it all on the pitch,” he said.
Ronaldo, who scored the decisive penalty in the shootout win over Atletico Madrid in last season’s final, returned to club soccer following an injury layoff when he scored in the 5-2 thrashing of Osasuna on Saturday (September 10).
The forward is back to full fitness and his expected to play from the beginning.
“He is ready to play, he wants to play and that is a good thing. We will see how many time does he play but the idea is that he plays the whole 90 minutes,” he said.
The Portugal captain netted in a 1-0 win and a 2-1 triumph over Sporting while he was with Manchester United but has yet to face them in a Real shirt.
Ronaldo moved from his family home in Madeira to Sporting’s academy at the age of 12 and spent one season in the first team, scoring five times in 30 appearances in all competitions before joining United in 2003.
