Russian Ambassador to Turkey killed by gunman

Ankara, Turkey, Dec 20 (ANI): According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov was killed by a gunman at an art exhibition in Ankara on Monday. Karlov was shot as he was speaking at the opening of a photographic art exhibition titled ‘Russia through Turks’ eyes’. According to witness at the site, the gunman suddenly rushed behind Karlov and shot, and then Karlov fell to the ground. According to witnesses, the gunman also shot at spectators at the site. The gunman was shot dead at the scene and identified as 22-year-old Turkish police officer Mevlut Mert Altintas, who had been on duty for two-and-a-half years at the riot police unit in Ankara.
