Shutdown in J and K over Masarat Alam’s detention
Srinagar, April 25 (ANI): Security was beefed up in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday after separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani gave a call for complete shutdown in the valley to protest arrest of separatist Masrat Alam Bhat. The shops remained closed and vehicles were off the main roads. The security personnel were on guard to prevent any untoward incident. Last week, violent clashes erupted between protesters and police in Kashmir, after a crackdown by authorities on separatist leaders. Police arrested Alam, a month after his release from prison. He had been in jail for five years for organizing anti-Indian protests that swept through Kashmir in 2010. Alam is accused of joining a rally last week at which some people waved Pakistani flags, angering Indian politicians.
