ROUGH CUT – NO REPORTER NARRATION

Solar Impulse 2 takes off from Muscat International Airport in Oman on Tuesday (March 10) on the next leg of its round-the-world journey, bound for Ahmedabad in India.

One of the two pilots will fly the zero-fuel airplane across 1465km for an estimated 16 hours.

They’re making an unprecedented attempt to fly by solar power alone around the world, seeking to prove that flight is possible without fossil fuel.

Solar Impulse 2 took off just after dawn on Monday (March 9) and will have stop-overs in India, Myanmar and China before crossing the Pacific Ocean, the United States and southern Europe, en route back to where it started in Abu Dhabi.

The journey of 35,000 km (22,000 miles), is expected to take five months to complete.
