Thousands celebrate nuclear test in Pyongyang
NATURAL ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)
North Korea held a mass rally to celebrate the country’s fifth nuclear test on Tuesday (September 13) in Pyongyang.
Video provided to Reuters by the North’s official news agency KCNA, which cannot be independently verified, showed thousands of people gathering for the rally at the Kim Il Sung square.
On Friday (September 9), Pyongyang set off its most powerful nuclear blast to date, saying it had mastered the ability to mount a warhead on a ballistic missile, ratcheting up a threat that its rivals and the United Nations have been powerless to contain.
South Korea said on Monday (September 12) the North is ready to conduct an additional nuclear test at any time.
On Tuesday, two U.S. B-1 bombers flew over South Korea in a show of force and solidarity with its ally.
