TRADERS’ TAKE ON MAHARASHTRA RETAIL POLICY: ‘IT IS A MALL POLICY’

The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved a new retail policy, which envisages inclusion of shops selling perishable goods under the Essential Services and Maintenance Act but exclusion of those owned by an individual employing nine persons. Even as traders say the policy will generate jobs, they added it will only help big shops and malls and not small-time shopkeepers. Speaking exclusively to nnis, Viren Shah, the President of FRTWA, said it is a ‘Mall policy’ not ‘retail policy’.
