Trump skips GOP debate, questions if it will cost him votes
ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, miffed at Fox News over the presence of Megyn Kelly on the moderator panel, excuses himself from a Republican presidential debate Thursday night and, instead, holds a campaign event and fundraiser for “Veterans and Wounded Warriors.”
Trump has been engaged in a public spat with Fox News since the network hosted the first debate and Kelly asked Trump about his treatment of woman, prompting a stream of insults from the candidate.
He told the crowd the news network was contacting him up to the last minute to see if he would change his mind. He didn’t and said his event raised $5 million for veterans.
“Is it for me personally a good thing, a bad thing? Will I get more votes? Will I get less votes? Nobody knows. Who the hell knows,” he told the crowd.
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination and U.S. Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum also attended Trump’s event.
Iowa’s Monday caucuses are the first nominating contest for the Nov. 8 presidential election.
