Trump touts lead over Clinton in Ohio

STORY: With eight weeks to go before election day, U.S. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump campaigned in Ohio on Wednesday (September 14), touting his slight lead over his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton.

“This morning, CNN came out or Bloomberg came out, and we were 48 to 43 up,” said Trump to a crowded room of supporters in Canton, Ohio. “And then we just got one a little while ago and that was a big one and that was 48 to 43. So these polls seem to be pretty close.”

Clinton, who has taken a few days off from campaigning, is currently recovering from non-contagious, bacterial pneumonia, her physician said in a letter released by the campaign.

“Don’t forget when I announced – seems like a long time ago – 17 people running, I was the non-professional. Everyone said, ‘Oh, Trump has never done this before? How could he possibly survive? These are the greatest professionals in the business.’ Boom. Boom Boom. Now we have one left,” said Trump smiling. “And in all fairness she’s lying in bad and getting better and we want her better. We want her back on the trail.”

Both presidential candidates on Wednesday moved to show their medical fitness for the White House. Clinton released a letter from her doctor declaring her fit for the presidency and Trump taped a TV-segment about his well-being.

Trump, 70, knows he could stand to lose a few pounds but otherwise is in great health, campaign adviser Sarah Huckabee Sanders told MSNBC on Wednesday after the Republican nominee taped an episode of the “Dr. Oz Show” in New York that will air on Thursday (September 15).

In her letter about Clinton, her physician, Dr. Lisa Bardack wrote: “She is recovering well with antibiotics and rest. She continues to remain healthy and is fit to serve as President of the United States.”

The announcements came as Clinton spent a third day resting at her home in Chappaqua, New York, after falling ill on Sunday morning as she left a Sept. 11 memorial service in New York. Video footage taken by a bystander showed Clinton stumbling as she attempted to get into a waiting vehicle. Her campaign said later in the day that the former secretary of state had been diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday.
