Turkish opposition leader targeted in convoy attack

Shots ring out from a mountainside near the city of Artvin, in northeastern Turkey.

The apparent target? Turkey’s main opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaraglu of the secularist Republican People’s Party, or CHP.

His convoy brought to a rapid halt, Kilicdaraglu escaped the scene unscathed via helicopter…

Though three police officers were reportedly injured in the exchange of fire.

The CHP says one of them later died.

Representatives for Kilicdaraglu have so far not named the alleged perpetrators of the shooting…and no group immediately claimed responsibility, but Turkey’s interior ministry is blaming the outlawed Kurdish PKK militant group.

Fueling tensions after last month’s failed coup, in a country still on edge.
