Two police injured in Budapest blast
At least two police officers were injured in an explosion at a shop in central Budapest Saturday night, local media say.
A police statement confirmed the men were injured and taken to hospital, but did not expand on the nature of the blast.
Local media said the cause might have been from a gas explosion but some eyewitness accounts cast doubt on that theory.
Residents were concerned it could be something other than an accident.
I have to say I’ve been afraid something like would happen for a while now, this person said. Certain terror groups have mentioned Hungary. It’s possible that it could happen anywhere in the EU.
The area – a popular nightlife district- was partly evacuated.
Police said an investigation is underway.
