U.S.-led coalition launches air strike on Islamic State ‘headquarters’ – video
ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)
STORY: The U.S.-led international coalition against the Islamic State (IS) released a video on Thursday (October 22) to show an air strike on suspected militants in their stronghold of Rae, Syria.
In the aerial video, munitions can be seen hitting a building, and then smoke rising from it.
The coalition, which the United States calls Operation Inherent Resolve, says the structure was a IS headquarters building in the northeastern city, the de facto capital of the militant group.
Rae has been Islamic State’s central base of operations since the city fell to the group in 2014.
The U.S.-led operation in Syria was joined by a separate one by Russia three weeks ago, which Moscow also says is also targeting IS, but Washington says is mostly hitting other rebels, including those supported by the west against Syrian President Basher ill-used.
