U.S. swimmer pays and goes: Brazil judge

A Brazilian judge has said U.S. Olympic gold medallist Jimmy Feigen has paid $11,000 to a sporting charity in Rio in return for his passport.

He is one of four U.S. swimmers, including Ryan Lochte, accused of fabricated a story about being robbed at gunpoint.

Police say they instead vandalised a gas station toilet, and argued with armed security guards.

“The swimmer has paid, and provided a confirmation of this payment made yesterday. After that confirmation we gave him back his passport.”

An airport employee on Friday said Feigen had since passed airport security and was waiting to board his flight home.

He is the last of the four swimmers to leave Brazil.

Lochte, Gunnar Bentz, and Jack Conger are already back in the U.S.

The IOC said on Friday the swimmers could be sanctioned if their behaviour is considered to have violated the Olympic charter.
