Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal was disappointed with a goalless draw against PSV Eindhoven as qualification now rests on a win away to Group B leaders Wolfsburg in Germany in the final group match if PSV can manage a home win against bottom side CSKA Moscow.

“Now the result is disappointing because I still have the feeling we could have finished (off) this game several times – more in the first half than the second half, but also in the second half we had the chance of Jesse Lingard especially, but also in the first half he played a very good game, Jesse Lingard, I think. But we did not play so well. In the first half it was average but in the second half despite my changes we did not improve. Nevertheless we gave in the second half only one chance away but now you know in the end it is 0-0. So we are disappointed because now know we have to win in Wolfsburg and that is a difficult game but now our average in away games is much better than last year, so we have to do it in Wolfsburg”.

STORY: Manchester United endured a frustrating night when they were held to a goalless draw by PSV Eindhoven at Old Trafford on Wednesday (November 25), squandering the opportunity to seal their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

United would have qualified with a win, but their hopes are now in the balance with the top three teams in Group B separated by only two points with one match to play.

United, who have eight points, have to visit leaders VfL Wolfsburg, who have nine, on Dec. 8 when only a win might be good enough.

Lingard had the team’s best chance on 73 minutes but blasted his shot over the bar.

It was United’s fourth goalless draw in their last seven matches and their lack of firepower could well cost them dear this season.

PSV, who are third on seven points, will qualify if they beat bottom-placed CSKA Moscow at home in their final game.
