Watch: 109 passengers disembark after being released from hijacked Libyan plane in Malta
Valletta (Malta), Dec 23 (ANI): Two hijackers on Friday diverted a Libyan plane carrying 118 people to the Mediterranean island of Malta on Friday and threatened to blow it up with hand grenades. According to police officials, 109 passengers have since been released by them. The police officials further said that potentially two hijackers and some crew members are still on board the aircraft. One of the hijackers reportedly told crew that he was “pro-Gaddafi” and that he was willing to let all 111 passengers leave the Airbus A320, but not its seven crew members if their demands weren’t met. However, as per the recent reports coming in, the hijackers are asking for asylum in Malta. Meanwhile, the Malta Airport Authority said all emergency teams had been dispatched to the site of what it called an “unlawful interference” on the airport tarmac.
