White House: Charlotte protests “must remain peaceful”
ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)
President Barack Obama called the mayors of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Wednesday to talk about recent shootings of black men by police that sparked protests in their cities.
“The president is certainly aware of what’s happening. He’s been in close touch with local officials,” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters.
“The president also hopes that the rights of peaceful protesters will be protected, but he also believes it should be made clear that the protests must remain peaceful.”
