Srinagar, Dec 21 (ANI): As the residents across Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar battle freezing temperatures, parts of the world-known Dal Lake have frozen up. With the dropping temperatures, the top layer of the lake has started freezing marking the beginning of ‘Chillai-Kalan’. Chillai-Kalan is the 40-day-long harshest period of winters in the Kashmir Valley. During this season that ends on January 31, chances of snowfall are most frequent and maximum. It is followed by a 20-day long ‘Chillai-Khurd’ (small cold) and a 10-day-long ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold). The minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at minus 6.5 degrees Celsius.
