“I’m just ready to get back out there. Watching the Olympics, it made me want to get back out there and compete and show, you know, myself and what I have been training toward that, you know, I can finish my season strong even though I didn’t make it to the Olympics”

3. (SOUNDBITE) (English) HARRISON SAYING:

“Every four years, someone is going to have a gold, someone is going to get a bronze, someone is going to get a silver. And you know, not a lot of people in their career get world records, so I understand that is an accomplishment that not every athlete is going to achieve at this level. So, you know, I’m glad to have the world record and then, hopefully, down the line, I get a medal”

STORY: U.S. hurdler Kendra Harrison is ready to get back to competition at the Lausanne Diamond League on Thursday (August 25) after missing the Rio Olympics, having finished sixth in the 100m hurdles at her national trials.

Harrison told a news conference in Lausanne on Wednesday that watching the Olympics made her keener than ever to get back on track.

She earned some consolation for the heartache of missing out on the Rio Olympics when she broke a 28-year-old world record by winning the 100 metres hurdles in 12.20 seconds at the London Diamond League in July.

It was one hundredth of a second faster than the mark set by Bulgaria’s Yordanka Donkova in 1988 – four years before Harrison was born.

She said on Wednesday she was glad to have the record, but would still like an Olympic medal.
